Ghee

Butter from Ayurveda

It is a special product: Ghee is pure butterfat that we obtain by acidifying raw cream and churning it into butter. We then melt the butter and use a special procedure to remove the water, lactose and egg whites. This creates a concentrated source of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D and K2) that contains only traces of lactose and milk protein. Heating also releases new flavors from the proteins and lactose. This gives a delicious and special taste to the ghee.

Ghee does not splash in the pan and is more heat resistant than butter. It is therefore possible to put a higher heat under your pan. That is why our ghee lends itself particularly well to roasting the juiciest (organic) steak with a crispy exterior.

But it is also excellent for baking your favorite cakes, cookies and other pastries. Especially if these are served to guests who are sensitive to milk protein or have a lactose intolerance. Or use it as a tasty substitute for coconut oil in Bulletproof coffee: the big hit in America.

Ghee is the most highly acclaimed food in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicine. It enhances the flavors of herbs and is easily digestible.

At room temperature, no condensation will form in the glass jar with Ghee and it can remain good for years. In fact: Ghee is aged in India for a long to very long (sometimes even 100 years!) to make it even healthier according to the principles of Ayurveda. This yields different names as the ghee ages:

  • Purana Ghrita (1-10 years)
  • Prapurana Ghrita (10-100 years)
  • Kaumba Ghrita (100-111 years)
  • Mahaghrita (>111 years)

It goes without saying that it will take some time before we have these variants available. But for now, our ghee is the ideal alternative for you. NB: Our ghee is only available in our store or can be sent by post. Unfortunately, the ghee is not yet available for purchase at other organic stores.
